Tea Lawns Highlighted in Margaret Thornby's Guide to Tea Rooms of Britain and situated in beautiful gardens The Old House offers shady seating for about 25 persons at a mix of tables and a Tudor room in the main house for rainy days. Open from 1200 to 1700 Wednesday to Sunday during May to October, The Old House offers the best of traditional foods in an idyllic setting. All food is freshly made on the premises using local produce. The menu has been created to be both simple and unusual, offering good old fashioned snacks such as sandwiches, salads and soup together with lighter Mediterranean fare for the more adventurous palate. The cream teas consist of traditional English scones hand made in our kitchen and the cakes are just like Granny made, real, no artificial creams or low fat items. We aim to provide taste just as you remember it. Service is naturally friendly and informal, run personally by John and nothing is too much trouble. The garden offers a chance for people to enjoy being outdoors with discreet seating under umbrellas or gazebo’s. Most seats can be reached with a wheelchair although toilet facilities are inside and have no wheelchair access. The inside room provides seating in 6, 4 or 2 tables. Access is via a stone pathway with one step up – a handrail is provided. As the house is a listed building from around the 15th century some doors are narrow and do not allow wheelchair access. However, our friendly house staff will be please to provide any assistance, we want our visitors to feel welcome. |
